Armillary Sundial

Armillary Sundials and Armillary Spheres in general are a delicate composition whose constituents include an assemblage of rings, with a model of the Earth at the center. Circular bands outside of the sphere represent the realm of all the stars, aka the celestial bodies.

Armillary sundials differ from “plain” armillary spheres in that it has an arrow angled through the center of the sphere. This arrow allows the armillary sundial to tell solar time, when it  casts a shadow on the equatorial band.

The Armillary Sundial is at once sophisticated and sublimely graceful. Bold castings and a determined arrow gnomon reach to the heavens.  Armillary Sundials command attention while at the same time offers a novel way of tracking the passage time using nothing but the shadow cast by the sun.

You may have seen these graceful objects in a garden setting. Most are rather decently sized and catch the attention of anyone  in the vicinity.  More often than not, these beautiful garden art objects lend themselves to more traditional and classical surroundings. This does not preclude it from being featured atop pedestals in colorful, eclectically decorated gardens where it becomes a stunning focal point.

Position the armillary sundial or sphere among your flowers or afix it to a pedestal to serve as a major focal point in your garden.  With either approach, you won’t make a decorating faux pas by incorporating this all-in-one unique time piece, garden artwork, decor if you will, into your garden.

These mystical looking pieces, long valued for their aesthetic and practical properties will instantly lend your garden that sophisticated look.  They’re durable and practical and the ultimate in form and function.  Plus, you will never need batteries for these bad boys.  So the next time you’re having an outdoor party, see how long before one of your friends notice that sophisticated sculpture sitting masterfully in your garden.
